Membership in international organizations
CIRP
CIRP (College International pour la Recherche en Productique) is the world’s leading organization for research in manufacturing engineering and is at the forefront of the development, optimization, control, and management of processes, machines, and systems. The academy restricts membership based on demonstrated research excellence and has about 600 academic and industrial members from 50 industrialized countries. CIRP’s vision is to foster research and development among its academic and industrial members, thereby contributing to global economic growth and societal well-being. CIRP’s mission is to build an international network of top researchers and industrialists at the highest level in order to pool their knowledge and insights.

EIT Manufacturing
CTU in Prague is a member of the European EIT Manufacturing consortium, which aims to strengthen education, research, and innovative entrepreneurship in industrial manufacturing across Europe. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) was established by the European Union in 2008 and has dedicated resources for business development, education, and research within the EU’s Horizon 2020 framework. EIT as a whole currently brings together more than 1,500 partners in eight sector-focused communities. Since 2018, one of these has been EIT Manufacturing, which focuses on supporting innovation in Europe’s manufacturing sector and aims to increase its global competitiveness, sustainability, and productivity. In addition to direct project opportunities, EIT Manufacturing offers a variety of avenues for developing intensive international collaboration. It fosters an innovation community and builds a network of ecosystems that enable participants to gain skills and find opportunities to interact—and where innovators can attract investors.
The core of the EIT Manufacturing consortium has grown from the original fifty or so entities to 61 today, across 17 European countries. CTU joined EIT Manufacturing as the only full Czech member through two of its units—the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FME CTU) and the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC CTU). In cooperation with European partners, these two workplaces carry out additional, typically year-long projects in the transfer of digital knowledge within Industry 4.0, training activities to increase qualifications for working with advanced manufacturing technologies, and, for example, corporate digital transformation.
More information about professional seminars prepared by CTU teams is available on the EITM Hub and in the RCMT events calendar and course calendar.
Participants in the courses thus join the largest European network for industry and gain:
- cooperation with partners from academia and industry;
- mentoring and support for digital-transformation projects;
- involvement in international projects;
- sharing of knowledge and know-how;
- tailored educational programs for upskilling and reskilling;
- financial support for innovative projects.

Membership/Cooperation with national organizations

Czech Society of Mechanical Engineers
The Czech Society of Mechanical Engineers (ČSS) is a registered association of mechanical engineers and technicians with an interest in engineering and related fields. For its members and the wider technical public, it organizes professional activities to acquire new information and to support the exchange of experience across various branches of engineering. The Czech Society of Mechanical Engineers is a voluntary member of the Czech Association of Scientific and Technical Societies (ČSVTS).
CTU in Prague, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Production Machines and Equipment is a member of the society.
Czech Technology Platform for ENGINEERING
The Czech Technology Platform for ENGINEERING (CTPS) is a registered association that brings together and supports the activities and initiatives of organizations working to develop the engineering industry in the Czech Republic and the related scientific, research, technological, and innovation activities.
Individual membership: Ing. Jan Smolík, Ph.D., member of the board

Czech-Moravian Society for Automation
The Czech-Moravian Society for Automation (ČMSA) brings together individuals and legal entities active in the automation of engineering manufacturing processes—or interested in these issues. Members include designers, developers, educators, managers, project and implementation firms, vocational schools, universities, and more.
Individual memberships in the ČMSA Presidium: Assoc. Prof. Ing. Vladimír Andrlík, CSc.; Ing. Tomáš Krannich, Ph.D.; Assoc. Prof. Ing. Lukáš Novotný, Ph.D.; Assoc. Prof. Ing. Pavel Souček, DrSc.; Ing. Jiří Švéda, Ph.D.
Society for Machine Tools
The Society for Machine Tools (SpOS) brings together companies and individuals active in the development and use of machine tools. Membership enables all members to obtain and share up-to-date information about developments in the field and to participate in educational events and professional workshops on machine tools. The society’s activities effectively connect companies and research workplaces for collaboration in education, research, and development.
Individual membership and key roles in the SpOS Executive Committee: Ing. Jan Smolík, Ph.D. (Chairman); Assoc. Prof. Ing. Petr Kolář, Ph.D. (Scientific Secretary); Ing. Matěj Sulitka, Ph.D.; Prof. Ing. Jaromír Houša, DrSc.; Assoc. Prof. Ing. Jaroslav Rybín, CSc. (members)

Technology Platform for Manufacturing Engineering
The Technology Platform for Manufacturing Engineering (TPSVT) is a grouping of manufacturing companies, research organizations, and associations that have long been active in the “Machine tools” domain in the Czech Republic. The platform’s main goal is to contribute to the development and competitiveness of the “Machine tools” field by supporting targeted, sector-specific applied research. It is the sole, top-level body in the field that formulates the long-term professional research strategy from which subsequent implementation into specific R&D projects follows.
Individual membership: Ing. Jan Smolík, Ph.D., vice-chair of the Steering Committee; Assoc. Prof. Ing. Petr Kolář, Ph.D., chair of the Executive Committee
Association of Engineering Technology (SST)
The Association of Engineering Technology (SST) was established primarily to support and protect the common interests of its members and to coordinate their cooperation in all areas where a joint approach is effective for business objectives. Today, SST brings together most companies and organizations operating in the field in the Czech Republic. Within the country, enterprises associated in the Union account for more than 70% of the production of machine tools and forming machines. The remaining output of SST companies is also significant, including woodworking machines, die-casting machines, hydraulic equipment, ball screws and nuts, motors, tools, and gauges. Membership in the Union gives companies and organizations access to industry statistical information, support in advancing member interests in dialogue with public authorities and civic organizations in the Czech Republic, and active cooperation with CECIMO.
Individual membership: Prof. Ing. Jaromír Houša, DrSc., honorary member of the board
