Tool wear monitoring using WattPilot in collaboration with ZPT

Tool wear monitoring using WattPilot in collaboration with ZPT
Effective use of cutting tools within their available tool life time represent nowadays one of challenging topics in machining. Premature removal of a tool from the cutting process can mean an increase in cutting tool costs by up to tens of %. In-process determination of the tool wear state is therefore a key factor that will allow the tool to be used up to the specified wear limit. RCMT is dedicated to developing solutions for in-process identification of the tool wear state using data from the control system - spindle power and data on the positions of machine axes.
Together with ZPT, represented by Mr. Paweł Ziobro, we started testing the unique WattPilot system, which consists of its own hardware reading of the spindle current before entering the converter and is distinguished by its high sensitivity.
We have been working with Paweł Ziobro from ZPT since 2021, we carried out benchmark session, training and development project on metalcutting process optimisation. We very much appreciate ZPT for its commitment knowledge sharing and professionalism – and we also recommend its training courses, development projects and the ‘ZPT Industry – automation – research & development – innovation’ certificate, as valuable assets in relations between our countries.
